Lithic means "rock" and all mechanically weathered pieces of another rock. The of sedimentary rocks is described either as classic or nonclastic. Weathering breaks down rock by both mechanical and chemical processes. Sometime that is all you need to determine, but it is useful to sub-classify the sample based on the mineralogy of the sand-sized clasts.
